I embark into the world of music. Scary.
I used to play piano when I was 6 years old. I started playing guitar in high school. I'm always singing... day and night. If you want to ask me how I feel, just ask what song is stuck in my head. I have dreamt of being a vocalist since I was little. Music is my life, and I wanted to make a career in it. But my dad didn't approve, so I couldn't.
Until now.

Until now.
I live in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico. I am now the head of a family, which makes everything very difficult, but not impossible. In fact, that makes me want to pursue it even harder. I don't want to have to explain to them how I never tried to make it as a musician because of grandfather. How I became someone I didn't want to. How I left my dreams die away. I have to try. I owe it to them and to myself.
So... I started looking for people to play with. AGAIN. This is the 5th or 6th time I have tried to make a rockband. They all filed because, well... the musicins were not commited, part of being young, or something happened that wouldn't let the project continue... but those tries were not serious.
This time is serious.
I started by asking the musicians and friends I had in the zone. If you are trying to do the same, it is very possible you already know people with similar ideas. Go ask, talk, network.
When nothing came up that way, I posted an add in craigslist. Not much luck there, but I found a guitarist. Great guy, good technique, great songwriting abilities. One down.
Next I kept asking around. When nothing panned out, I started looking through local facebook musician groups. Added a few people. Looked through their friends list. Added more people. Sent messages saying what my intent was. There was more response than I anticipated. I found a drum player in Tijuana. 2 down, great. Now I just needed a cellist.
Why a cellist? My idea is to make a, what I like to call, Rock Opera band. HIM meets Apocalyptica meets Fightstar. Some may say that's melodic metal. I really don't care, I don't like labels anyway.
Anywho, I found a cellist doing the same thing. but he was too busy, so he referred me to another cellist. Five times different cellist did me the same thing, until one of them said yes.
Now I have the everyone, right? Well... I now need a place to practice, some basic equipment, a small PA system at least and a microphone. Maybe I will get someone to be the manager, I still don't know, but there always has to be someone organizing and pushing all the musicians to practice and play. You might think it is a simple task, or that everybody is so excited about your project they want to practice everyday and play every weekend. It's almost always not the case. Plus, I don't like to be running around people to tell them what they need to do.
Another thing to consider is the legal side of the music business. If you are starting a band, you need to establish how the song's copyrights are going to be managed, what the name will be and who holds the rights to it. Written on paper is always better. For more information on all of that, I will post a very good online class I took at Udemy.com I found very helpful.
As of now, that's where I am at. I will be posting more on my progress. I hope you like this blog, and you find it helpful.
Until next time!
