Yesterday was my youngest daighter's 2nd birthday. We don't have any close friends with babies, so it was just us to celebrate.
I think the most important thing for the first birthdays, and maybe all birthdays but I can't tell you first hand till they happen, is for them to have fun. I'm not that kind of parent to make a social event for me out of their birthdays... at least not anymore.
As a young parent, being socially excluded because of having a baby is very difficult at first. For some more than others. I wasn't the partying type anyways, so it was a smooth transition for me. It is very important to socialize tho, both for the parents as for the kids. One can start loosing touch of the outside world juggling tight schedules that revolve their kids, but it is of vital importance to avoid stress and well being to stay in contact with a close circle of friends.
Not during special ocations though. A kids birthday should always be about him or her, IMHO. I will try to keep that in mind every year. Promise. (As a note to self and future reference for Fay and Joie)
What are you opinions on birthdays?
Til next time.
